Innovative STEAM Education Project Combining Mathematics and Art Across European Schools

A collaborative Erasmus+ project among schools in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and Turkey, merging Mathematics and Art to enhance students' competences, intercultural awareness, and STEAM skills. The project includes mobilities, activities on fractals, golden section, and infinity, creation of artistic objects, MathCityMap trails, and more. Participants benefit from improved skills, increased motivation, and enhanced cultural understanding, impacting students, teachers, schools, and the wider educational community.

  3. Framework Students who learned math in informal settings, in addition to the classroom, were adept at problem-solving and using complex math in a variety of everyday situations. The goal of our project is to foster the true innovation that comes with combining the mind of a scientist or technologist with that of an artist or designer, putting emphasis on STEAM — the educational discipline that engages students around the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math

  6. Activities during the mobilities ● Workshops on MathsandArt topics ● Visits to cultural heritage places related to the main Maths & Art topics ● Creation of artistic objects that combine Maths/Arts topics (c) and traditional local craft. ● Testing MathCityMap trails

Activities between mobilities ● Logo competition ● Joining the etwinning community and updating the project Twinspace ● Workshops on The Golden Ratio, Fractals and Infinity held between the mobilities in national groups in each partner country and during the mobilities in transnational groups ● Learning about the MathCityMap project (teachers and students) ● Preparation of MathCityMap trails that combine Maths and Art

  8. Participants 119 students and 12 teachers from the 5 partners schools took part in the mobilities. Families, school staff, stakeholders have been involved in various project activities.

  9. Results A touristic guide with the MapCityMap (https://mathcitymap.eu/en/) trail that will be composed by individual Mathematical tasks in artistic places will be created in each of the towns involved in the mobilities (and translated in English and in the other 5 partner languages), to be presented to the local tourist offices Creation of artistic objects that combine Maths/Arts topics (c) and traditional local craft.
