  2. Dance Foot Lites Dance Studio: I dance at FLDS. It is located in Mayfair on Frankford avenue. It is a relatively small studio with less than 100 students in the studio, and 22 students in the performance troupe. My classes only have 5 students in them. My dance teachers’ names are Miss Karen Widdoss (who taught me everything I know) and Miss Krystin Schulke (who makes ballet fun). Our director is Tina Schulke.

  3. Dance My Schedule School Year: During the school year, I dance four hours a week. I go for three hours on Friday nights from 5:30 until 8:30, and for one hour Tuesday nights from 6 until 7. In these classes we prepare for our annual dance recital and winter competition. After recital, we get a two week break until summer classes start. Summer: During the summer, I dance for two hours a week. I go on Wednesday nights from 6 until 8. In these classes, we learn two numbers with the whole performance troupe that we use during recital, fall competition, and many performances.

  4. Dance Types: I do many different types of dance. I do tap, jazz, lyrical, and ballet. In the past, I also took hip-hop. However, in competitions, we only perform our tap, and jazz numbers.

  5. Dance Troupes: Out of the 22 students in the Performance Troupe, there are five smaller troupes, that are determined by age and skill. In Troupe I there are 4 students in the 15-17 age group, in Troupe II there are 4 students in the 10-12 age group, in Troupe III there are 5 students in the 15-17 age group, in Troupe IV there are 5 students in the 13-15 age group, and in Troupe V there are four students ranging in age from 16-26. I am a part of Troupe IV.

  6. Dance Competitions: Competitions are so much fun! We have participated in the Faces of the Future, and Backstage Performing Arts competitions. At Faces, the Performance Troupe won Senior High Point in 2011,along with our many other awards, and at Backstage, Troupe II won their age division, and Troupe IV placed 2nd in Tap, not to mention our many other awards.

  7. Dance Performances: Performances, like competitions, are tons of fun. We have performed at the NJ Riversharks baseball game, Six Flags, and even Disney World. Although we don’t receive awards at performances, the fun and experiences we have are payment enough.

  8. Dance We’re not just a team. We’re a family: It sounds corny, but we really are a family. We might even see each other more than our own family members. Over the past six years at Foot Lites I have grown so close to my fellow dancers that I honestly can’t imagine dancing anywhere else. With the extreme amount of girls, there is some drama, but we all get over it. And no, it’s not like Dance Moms. Our Performance Troupe teacher, Miss Karen, is strict, but a sweetheart, and I owe her my dancing career.
