Program available at: http://docenti2.unior.it/index2.php?content_id=18930&content_id_start=1&ID_Utente=2973 (verified 10 May, 2017) The course intends to guide students to reach the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference via developing their understanding of English in its lexical, grammatical, textual, idiomatic, and pragmatic nuances. Through targeted activities and interactive work in pairs and groups, students will be guided to identify the various facets of the target language. Authentic materials taken from articles, advertisements, scientific papers, corpora, and so on will be analyzed so as to identify the various linguistic, syntactic, and pragmatic constituents of English and verify their patterns of use, misuse, or abuse. A number of different media (e.g., audio, video, interactive programs) will be looked at in order to compare and analyze the multiplicity of textual and conversational expressions which characterize today’s English. The use of numerous examples, practice tests, and class exercises, enriched with exposure to movies and documentaries and the exploitation of eduware and websites, will let students experiment with English and consolidate what they have acquired in the first year. prof.
