  3. Dr Frank Holloway “In ten years time will the diagnosis of schizophrenia be out of date?” What Is Psychosis? Frank shared a vignette of a person experiencing the disruptive and confusing experiences of hearing voices, withdrawal and confusion, associated with schizophrenia. He also noted the reactions of the public and the media to psychosis and schizophrenia. Frank suggested a diagnosis of schizophrenia is not based on a specific pathological mechanism.

  6. Buddy, an on-going project to create a piece of networked technology that will allow people who use services to record how they are feeling. Katie Harris Buddy – What is it? Record how we look forward rather than back.. Because our activities influence our mood this software becomes more of a challenge to develop.

  7. Bose Dania “Feel like I’m emerging, From darkness.” Life After Diagnosis Find one’s own voice to become who you desire to be, through determination and self will. “When I wasn’t me, I felt life leave my soul; When I wasn’t me, society looked pretty scary to me”

  8. Michelle McNary Several very able people spoke eloquently on film, about their experiences of mental illness and recovery. Recovery Film “One of the things about recovery, is learning to live a new life, get a second chance, a new piece of clay, you can shape the way you want.” “ The more hope I have, the more it helps my recovery - they go together, there is no separating them.” “My current dream is to inspire people that recovery can be done!” Quotes taken from Film

He prepared • “ A Quick Guide to Recovery for Service Users and Carers” The Story of SLaM • Embedding social inclusion, recovery and wellbeing into SLaM’s strategic aims • Five Implementation Workstreams • Fostering relationships • Promoting Wellbeing • Offering treatments- Clinical experiences to be available “on tap not on top” • Improving Social Inclusion • Outcomes- How do we measure and achieve outcomes?

  11. Dr Glenn Roberts Glenn gave a comprehensive and intriguing look into the importance of narrative. The Importance of Personal Narratives for (R)recovery Glenn provided touching examples of engagement with people experiencing distress and showed the impact of supported journeys.
