  7. Interpretation Procedure • http://standards.ieee.org/reading/ieee/interp/ • Send email to Linda Gargiulo (l.gargiulo@ieee.org) • IEEE forwards requests to the WG • WG responds Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  8. Interpretation Requests • Status and Reason Code Usage • ANA-assigned Information Element Definitions Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  9. Interpretation Request Status and Reason Code Values are Defined • There is little or no description of requirements for when to send a particular value • There is no description of what to do when a particular value is received How is a particular value to be chosen? What is to be done when each value is received? Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  10. Interpretation Response • This request duplicates requests that have been received in the past. The response to these requests is available on the IEEE 802.11 web site at the following URLs: • http://www.ieee802.org/11/Interpretations/03-402r1-M-Interpretation_Response_02-0503.doc • http://www.ieee802.org/11/Interpretations/03-401r1-M-Interpretation_Response_01-0503.doc • This information has been forwarded to the 802.11 working group for consideration of inclusion in a future revision or maintenance release of the standard. Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  11. Motion to adopt 04-69 • Moved: That document 04-69r0 be adopted as the response to the interpretation request regarding Status and Reason Code usage. • Moved: Bill Brasier • Seconded: Darwin Engwer • Vote: unanimous Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  12. Motion to forward to WG • Motion: to request the working group to accept and forward the interpretation response contained in document 04-69r0 to Linda Gargiulo at the IEEE office as the official response of the 802.11 working group. • Moved: Darwin Engwer • Seconded: Bill Brasier • Vote: unanimous Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  13. Interpretation Request ANA Assigned Information Element ID Values • There is no description of the format of the information elements • There is no description of the set of frames in which the information elements may appear • There is no description of the “vendor-specific” information element What are the definitions of the ANA-assigned information elements? What frames use each information element? Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  14. Interpretation Response • The standard defines the information element IDs that are the subject of the interpretation request as “reserved”. This includes the working group-assigned information element IDs for the use of individual companies and the “vendor-specific” information element. This indicates that the element IDs may be used in a future amendment of the standard. The standard does not provide any definition of the use of these information element IDs for individual company use or for use as a “vendor-specific” information element. The request has been forwarded to the 802.11 working group for consideration of inclusion in a future revision or maintenance release of the standard. Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  15. Motion to adopt 04-70 • Moved: That document 04-70r0 be adopted as the response to the interpretation request regarding ANA-assigned information element definition. • Moved: Brian Mathews • Seconded: Bill Brasier • Vote: unanimous Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  16. Motion to forward to WG • Motion: to request the working group to accept and forward the interpretation response contained in document 04-70r0 to Linda Gargiulo at the IEEE office as the official response of the 802.11 working group. • Moved: Darwin Engwer • Seconded: Brian Mathews • Vote: unanimous Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  17. Change to PAR? • Several of the interpretation requests received have pointed out areas of the standard that are very poorly defined, but not part of ongoing or contemplated work in other task groups • Fixing these areas requires adding new functionality to the standard • The current scope of the PAR does not allow new functionality Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  18. Possible PAR Change • A “revision” PAR allows incorporation of new functionality • Also opens entire document for comment and review • Can be limited by the scope in the PAR Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  19. Possible PAR Change • Document 04-58r0 is a proposal for changing the current PAR to a revision PAR • Discussion? Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.

  20. Motion • To adopt document 04/58r1 as the revised PAR for 802.11ma and forward it to the working group for submission to the 802 Executive Committee no less than 30 days prior to the March 2004 802 plenary session. • Moved: Brian Mathews • Second: Bill Brasier • Vote: unanimous Bob O'Hara, Airespace, Inc.
