  3. Timeline • Pre implementation Meetings – Nov 2007 • Planning Meetings Nov- January 2007 • Kick Off – 02/12/07 in ED • Biweekly check in meetings for refinement • Modifications – oral fluid specimens added 4/16/08 Overall – 3 months from contemplation to implementation

  4. ED Approach • Promoted at triage • Collected in the E.D. • Processed in the Blood Bank • Posted in CLIQ • Results delivered and need for f/u with Western Blot if initial oral fluid positive • Infection Control f/u with WB results counseling

  5. HOP clinic • Significant others only • Clinician offers • Quick registration process • Health educators perform the test • If positive, Western Blot drawn and sent to the lab • Infection Control f/u with WB results counseling

  9. Successes • MCL has higher seropositivity (2.34%) than any other OPH-sponsored testing site (highest 1.5%) and all other HIV testing sites (overall .91%) in the metropolitan area. • We are offering a service to our patients and helping people with HIV get into care.
