  1. Think Central Introduction to Science Fusion K-5: Online Digital Lesson

  2. Table of Contents • Results from Survey (January and February) • Introduction to Science Fusion: Online Digital Lesson • Conclusion • Hands-on Activity • Exit ticket

  3. TIM (Technology Integration Matrix Technology integration Level (1stSurvey) • Levels of technology integration • Entry (22%) (Learn the basics of using the new technology) • Adoption (6%) (Use new technology to support traditional instruction) • Adaptation (61%) (Integrate new technology into traditional classroom practice) • Computer Lab • Mimio Teach use • Infusion (11%) (Focus on cooperative, project-based, and interdisciplinary work incorporating the technology as needed and as one of many tools) • Active • Collaborative • Transformation (0%) (Discover new uses of technology tools)

  4. Tools used the most (2nd survey)

  5. What’s next? • Ideas to integrate: • Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy • Visit ANS tech hub • Professional Development by grade level. • Integrate with Tech Teacher. • New Laptops – library (Mobile Lab)-2013-2014 • iPads (Mobile Lab)-2013-2014 • Mini Computer Lab-2013-2014

  6. Think Central Introduction to Science fusion K-5: Online Digital Lesson

  7. In this workshop you will learn: • The purpose of using Online Digital Lessons • How to access the teacher’s Desktop > Resources • The Teacher Management Screen • Top Bar • Resources Section (Workshop #2) • Lessons Section • How lessons are organized • Lessons • Virtual Labs • Additional use of Digital Lessons

  8. Online Digital Lessons • Purpose: Engages students in lesson concepts with interactions through simulations, animations, videos, virtual labs, video-based projects, and assessments. The 5Es--Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, Evaluate--provide a roadmap for student investigation and science content learning. • Format: Digital online; available in English and Spanish • Tip: You can assign Online Digital Lessons to individual students or use them with a projector or on a digital whiteboard for whole-class or small-group instruction (mimio teach).

  9. Digital Lessons • Purpose: Provides an alternative digital experience for every textbook lesson—content, vocabulary, and inquiry—giving students multimodal and multiple exposures to concepts. • Format: Digital online • Tip: Digital Lessons can be used to introduce a concept (Engage), teach it in class (Explore/Explain), or as a reinforcement activity (Extend). Can be used simultaneously with the Student Edition—Digital Lessons for whole class instruction and textbook for application. Digital Lessons

  10. Online Virtual Labs • Purpose: Engage students in virtual hands-on labs that explore lesson concepts but could be too complicated, time consuming, or dangerous for the classroom. In Grades K–5, each Guided Inquiry lesson in the Student Edition has a corresponding virtual lab to provide a unique multimodal approach for learning science concepts and skills. • Format: Digital online • Tip: Virtual labs involve all students in science exploration. Virtual Lab

  11. Video – Based Projects (3-8) • Purpose: Develop unit Big Ideas and S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through engaging interactive activities that involve students in real-world data gathering in a variety of fascinating fieldwork sites, including Florida, the Bahamas, Australia, and Boston’s Children’s Hospital. These self-contained, unit-based modules consist of inquiry and project-based videos with resource sheets for teachers and students. • Format: Digital online via the Student Interactive Digital Curriculum and Teacher Online Management Center, and on Teaching Resources DVD • Tip: Video-Based Projects bring real-world science into classrooms.

  12. Leveled Readers (K-5) – Workshop #2 • Purpose: Reinforce, enrich, extend, develop, and apply unit concepts. Each reader comes with a Teacher Guide, which provides instructional strategies and three reproducible student worksheets for vocabulary, comprehension, and oral reading fluency. • Format: Print, digital online, and on Teaching Resources DVD • Tip: Teachers can differentiate instruction by assigning appropriate Leveled Readers to students with different reading ability levels. Three different levels can be used to reinforce, enrich, and extend unit concepts.

  21. Reviews • Take a Virtual Tour “ Science Fusion has many components that are very useful: digital lessons that can be paused for any extra explanation or answering student's questions, vocabulary cards, e-book (teachers and students) quiz practice, online quizzes with reports available, some virtual labs, The only setback is that the site is not user friendly. It can freeze at any given moment (usually in the middle of the class or whenever you assign a quiz) Ms Albuquerque 4D - ANS ”

  23. Conclusion Science Fusion gives you a fast, engaging way to reach a wider range of learning styles and abilities (differentiated instruction) The lessons can be assigned individually in a computer lab or library, you can demonstrate them with a projector and/or use them with your mimio teach. Science Fusion provides a curriculum that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students will be able to build and develop their 21st century technology skills. (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Problem-solving, Decision-making, Communication and Collaboration)
