The Convention • Philadelphia May of 1787, • They met all summer---17 weeks • Their intention was to “fix “ the articles • They found they were too far gone and had to be rewritten. • Presided over by Madison, Jefferson & Washington • Secret Meetings
Delegates Discussed • Humans are motivated by self-interest • Economic Issues • Balanced Interests • Strengthen the National Government • “power belongs to the people” • Power needs to be checked. • A minority could not tyrannize a majority • How could/should it work? • How could get it ratified?
