  2. Role of NWS TAFs • Used forplanning purposesby airline dispatchers, air traffic managers, and GA pilots • Should define operational impacts • Categorical values needed by customers to determine arrival and departure procedures • Should focus on the 2 to 6 hour time frame

  3. Categorical Amendment Criteria Provides our customers with a more responsiveproduct tailored to their regulatory needs Allows forecasters to use AvnFPS as a Decision Tool rather than an alert monitor

  4. Categorical Amendment Criteria • Employs the following important concepts: • Tailors Ceiling and Visibility to meet specific airport requirements • Groups Ceiling and Visibility together into categoriesto match FAA Regulations • TEMPO groups checked immediately against METARS to notify forecasters of resulting customer impacts

  5. Categorical Amendment Criteria • Categorical Amendment Criteria: • Thelowest element of ceiling or visibility is considered “controlling” for AMD purposes • Standard Amendment Criteria: • Prompts for an AMD based on ceiling ORvisibility

  6. Light Green PVD CAT B (Alternate Min): 800 ft and 2SM

  7. Yellow All CAT E (Fuel Alternate): 2000 ft and 3SM

  8. Purple ORH CAT A (Airfield Min): 200 ft and 1/2SM
