  3. Are Accidents preventable? • 80% of all ACCIDENTS are PREVENTABLE • ACCIDENT = unexpected, harmful, event that occurs by chance

  4. 5 steps of an Accident(Accident Chain) • 1. Situation (BBQ) • 2. Unsafe Habit (Impatient) • 3. Unsafe Act (Fire Starter) • 4. The Accident (Explosion) • 5. The Result (Damages/Injuries)

  6. HOME SAFETY • Falls – 1 of every 5 results in an ER visit • Poison • 90% of victims are under the age of 6 (can’t read) • Adult victim is usually a suicide attempt

  8. FIRE SAFETY • Fire • 80% of victims die from smoke inhalation • 3 required elements • Fuel • Heat • oxygen

  10. MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY • Most frequent cause of accidental death (23.9%) • 80% would live if they used seat belts • 96% of all MV accidents are driver error • 50% of all fatal MV accidents involve alcohol

  14. WATER SAFETY CONT. • Home pools • 50%of all drowning • Children under 6 die quietly • Don’t know they are in trouble until they are under the water • There is not a call for help
