  1. EWB Challenge 2010 Team Underground?

  2. Our Idea - We chose to address the accomodation of the Kooma Clans - Our Solution was an earth covered house (basic Introduction)

  3. Construction Materials • Pre-cast reinforced concrete in the construction of the walls • Insulated glass to eliminate energy loss • Bentonite clay, used to waterproof the surrounding area

  4. Our Brainstorming Process • Initial Ideas • Coming up with the earth sheltered housing idea • Other more radical ideas • Our proposed layouts • Our final layout

  5. Advantages (Why we chose it) • Reduced long term impact on the environment • Excellent energy efficiency • Bushfire Resistant • Lessened visual impact on the surrounding areas

  6. Possible Social Implications • The initial excavation may be quite large, however after the house is built, will blend into the landscape. • The Kooma nation may resist being housed underground. • The majority of materials will have to be transported onsite.
