  2. INTRODUCTION The Leader of the service introduces the new Headteacher Leader: We are gathered here on this special day to welcome (name) as your new Headteacher and to pray for her/him as she takes up her new role. All: We welcome you.

  3. ACT OF COMMISSIONING Leader: (Name) you have been appointed as the new Headteacher of (name of school) You will recognise the responsibilities involved. Education is part of the Church’s mission in sharing the Good News of the Gospel. It recognises that all human experience presents opportunities for developing and deepening our love and knowledge of God and others.

  4. As the Headteacher you have a special responsibility to ensure that everyone in your school is valued and recognised as being a child of God, uniquely gifted by Him. You are also responsible for ensuring the school is rooted in Christian values, principles and beliefs; and that worship and religious education are central to the whole life and work of the school. Leader: Do you commit yourself to this work? Headteacher: I will with the help of God.

  5. Leader: (to parents) Parents, as your children's first educators, will you commit yourselves to working in partnership with the Headteacher, staff and governors of your school by supporting them as they seek to provide educational excellence, in a Christian context? Parents: We will, with the help of God.

  6. Leader (to pupils) Children, will you promise to do your best to help (name) and all the staff of your school? Children We will, with the help of God

  7. Leader (to governors) Governors, as those who work with your Headteacher, do you commit yourselves to supporting him /herin ensuring that all pupils receive a quality Christian education? Governors We will, with the help of God.

  8. Leader (to school staff) Members of staff, will you commit yourselves to the education and nurture of pupils in a Christian ethos, and to working with, and supporting your new Headteacher? Staff We will, with the help of God.

  9. Leader (to church members) As members of (name of church) and as members of the local community will you support your new Headteacher, governors, staff, pupils and parents with your prayers and active encouragement? Church members : We will, with the help of God.

  10. Leader (to Headteacher) To be appointed as the Head of a Church school and to undertake the nurture of its pupils, is to be given a solemn trust. We pray that God will strengthen you, by his grace, faithfully to fulfill this task. Amen

  11. WELCOME Church wardens On behalf of the local congregation we welcome you. We present you with the keys of the school as a symbol of your responsibilities. May God bless you in all that you do.

  12. WELCOME Diocesan Representative On behalf of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham I welcome you to the Diocese and church school family. Receive this Bible to mark this occasion. It is God's word and the foundation of true wisdom. Use it to guide and inspire you.

  13. PRAYER Leader God of new beginnings, we thank you for Mrs Brown. We ask your blessing on her that shemay have wisdom and strength in the leadership sheexercises.Give her your special gifts of love, joy, wisdom, grace and understanding as she serves our school. Grant to her creativity in teaching and learning; insight and understanding in management; and vision in leadership. Help her lead the school in the ways of Christ through the pursuit of equality, truth, justice, love and peace. Amen.

  14. BLESSING Leader May Almighty God, bless us in our school, church and wider community so that in work and play we may grow in love, respect and trust of one another and for you. We ask this through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord who brings the promise of new life and love to all. Amen
