Life is good. Elder Lofthouse is learning to cope with German culture and language, and is a bit frustrated by both, but is making good progress. It is interesting to see the difference between my mannerisms in dealing with people in comparison to his American tendencies. I´m surprised by the changes Germany has worked on me. It doubly makes me slightly proud to be more European, and regretful to be less cheerful. I appreciate smiling less and getting things done more. I believe (although this could be false) that happy Germans don´t smile as much with their mouths, but more with their countenance. Of course they smile still, just not as much. A family in the ward, the Baumanns, told us that Europeans think Americans smile fakely. I did genuinely smile more at home than now, but I´d concurrently say I´m more content and, perhaps more cheerful, while smiling to myself less. So Elder Lofthouse has somewhat of a culture shock.
