  2. What do these films have in common in a comedic sense? What is the goal? Think of how each one is structured leading to the attained or unattained goal. • Dumb and Dumber • Due Date • Hangover • Horrible Bosses • This is the End

  3. Digging the Hole Deeper • This is a technique most commonly used in films and comedic sketches, where a situation consistently gets worsefor comedic effect.

  4. Pick a film, write down the goal of the characters, and list at least five events that effectively “dig the hole deeper” for comedic effect.

  5. Now let’s watch a few SNL skits using this comedic technique! • For each skit, write the goal of the character(s) and then identify three instances where the situation for the characters is consistently getting worse for comedic effect.
