  1. Wonder Woman Film Presentation By: Maddie, Tilly and Becky

  2. History of the character • She possesses an arsenal of magical items, including the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara which serves as a projectile, and, in older stories, a range of devices based on Amazon technology. • Wonder Woman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC comics. • She was sculpted by clay by her mother Queen Hippolyta and was given a life to live as an Amazon, along with superhuman powers as gifts by the Greek gods. • In her homeland, the island nation of Themyscira, her official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira.

  3. Wonder Woman Film production in 2017 • Wonder Woman had its world premiere in Shanghai on May 15, 2017, and was released in the United States on June 2, 2017, in 4DX, Real 3D, and IMAX 3D by Warner Bros.

  4. Production • In March 2005, Warner Bros and Silver Pictures announced that Joss Whedon would write and direct the film.  • Early drafts of his screenplay included Steve Trevor as the narrator. Whedon was not able to complete a final version of his screenplay and left the project in 2007. • Although Whedon stated in May 2005 that he would not cast the part of Wonder Woman until he finished the script.

  5. Marketing •  According to Time Warner chief marketing officer Kristen O'Hara, they wanted to approach the Wonder Woman marketing campaign in a light manner.  • In May 2017, a promo for Wonder Woman was released during the season finale of Supergirl, featuring a remix of the song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin" and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) wearing Wonder Woman's boots. • Warner Bros. has spent over $3 million on advertisements for Wonder Woman. • The timing and placement of Wonder Woman’s marketing initiatives are intended to maximize return, meaning people who are already likely to see the movie aren’t going to see as much marketing.

  6. DC Universe vs Marvel Franchise • DC and Marvel create movies in the same genre but have very distinct differences in the different films.  • In the Marvel Cinematic Universe the location of action tends to be in recognisable locations, like New York City or Washington D.C but in the DC Universe the films tend to be almost entirely set in fictional worlds which the heroes are set to protect, like Gotham (which is based off of New York City but is considered a different city) or Metropolis. • In the DC world many of the characters are born with their abilites or develop them at a young age and they grow up with them and their identities from a young age is as a hero. However, in Marvel the charcters tend to have freak accidents which cause them to develop powers (Spiderman or Hulk) and much of their storyline is them learning how to deal with this new identity and learning to use their powers. • DC Films tend to be much darker and grittier with directors like Christopher Nolan and Zach Snyder creating them, humour does occur in these movies but as a whole they are much more serious and technical. On the other hand, Marvel movies are created to be all about the comedic values and appeal to a younger audience (Guardians of the Galaxy or Deadpool).

  7. Costs and profits of the film • Wonder Woman had a production budget of $120 Million, a small budget in comparison to many other Warner Bros movies, Justice Leauge had a budget of $300 million and Birds of Prey had a budget of $250 million. • In the box office it earnt $821.8 million internationally, made $38.7 million on its opening day in 4,165 theatres across the globe which earnt a huge profit.  • It was the biggest single-day gross of a female directed film ahead of Twilight’s $35.9 million and was the biggest opening day for a woman-led comic book superhero film ahead of Ghost in the Shell at $7 million.  • It was the 16th superhero film to cross the $100 million box office earnings. It made a drop off 43% in its second week at the box office but was still doing better than most superhero films which has a drop of 50-60%, and did better than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (earnt $51.3 million in its second week) and Suicide Squad ($43.5 million). • By August it had earnt $400 million in ticket sales, becoming the second highest-earning superhero film at the time (now being Joker (2019) with over $1 billion) and replaced Spider-Man (2002), was Warner Bros biggest movie after Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It also became the highest-earning film with a female director in terms of domestic earnings, which surpassed Frozen (2013). • The advertisement for the film cost over $3 million.
