  2. SECOND WORLD WAR • -WWII lasted form 1939 to 1945. • -Germany, Italy and Japan formed the Axis. • -UK, USA, Russia and France formed the Allies. • - Beginnig of Summer 1940: it looked like the Axis was winning. • -January 1941: attack at Pearl Harbor. USA joined the war with Allies.

  3. - On 9 July of 1943: D-Day. • -In May of 1945: war finished in Europe • - In Asia the war finished in August after 2 bombs on Japan.

  4. Air raids • What is an air raid?

  5. An air raid is an attack by bombs, from the air. When the German planes came, the warning was given by sirens. When people heard the sirens, they went into the air raid shelters.

  6. There were 2 types of bombs: FIRST TYPE WERE: Big bombs was called blockbuster and they could destroy a building. SECOND TYPE WERE: Small bombs called 'incendiaries' set fire the buildings and the streets.

  7. -Firefighters worked bravely to put out the flames. • Rescue teams helped to get out the people from fallen buildings.

  8. War effort • Everyone was asked to help win the war. • Children cleaned roads. • Most important: Women • Older saved money.

  9. Women had to do the men's works. • They were in the factories, on buses and trains, in hospitals and in the schools.
