Search Process • 10/28/13 - Search Committee appointed • Nov. 2013 - Greenwood/Asher appointed as search consultant • 12/19/13 – Search Committee: Charge & organizational meeting • Jan. 2014 - Ad & position description created & posted • Jan-Feb 2014 - Nominations & applications sought • 2/10/14 - Update to dental faculty • 3/19/14 - Search Committee: initial review of candidates

Characteristics of Ideal Candidates • Leadership: experienced, demonstrated • Communication: listening, writing, speaking, conversation • Balanced: excellence in 1, 2, or 3 missions, but understands all 3 (eg, “I don’t drive the research bus, but I know how to fill it with gas and tune its engine”) • Sustainable: understand finances • Visionary: innovation

  4. Currently … (but changing daily) … • 304 telephone and email conversations • 101 nominations, applications, or outreach • 34 candidates • We continue to make calls.

Next steps • 3/22-23/14 - Airport interviews, Orlando, ~10-12 candidates, leaders in academic dentistry • Referencing • April 2014 – UF/Gainesville interviews, ~4-5 candidates • Candidate presentation to/forum with dental faculty • Candidates meet with groups of faculty, chairs, associate deans, students • Your recommendations • Feedback from dental faculty on each candidate

  6. Summary • Good numbers • Strong pool • Fair process • Dental faculty to be extensively involved in on campus interviews and providing feedback to the search committee
