  2. Course description • Traditional VHS course with supplemental online activities • Fourteen 90-minute onsite lessons per semester • In traditional VHS classroom (not computer room) • 16 learners • Weekly written homework Karen.Emmendorfer@t-online.de

Course Contents • Course book: Basis for Business Pre-intermediate, Cornelsen Verlag • Additional worksheets downloaded from Cornelsen website • Other internet sources (dictionaries, grammar practice, podcasts, etc.) • Teacher-created online exercises (i.e. Hot Potatoes, other moodle activities) Karen.Emmendorfer@t-online.de

  4. The online course room • is made up of various „blocks“ which include: • a list of learners‘ names and a photo, • a message block for private messages, • an RSS feed with BBC news podcasts, • a link to Cornelsen Verlag website. Karen.Emmendorfer@t-online.de

  5. The procedure • After each onsite lesson, an entry is made to the course room describing what was done during the past lesson, and what the homework for the next lesson is. • Additional online activities are provided which are related to current lesson topics. Karen.Emmendorfer@t-online.de

  6. Online activities include • an online needs analysis questionnaire, • a learners‘ discussion forum, • email-writing exercises with private, individual feedback, • class wikipedia for online group work, • a glossary created by the learners, • databank of class photos, • teacher-created online grammar and vocabulary exercises (Hot Potatoes), • a private chat room.   7. Teacher‘s time and effort • At the beginning of the semester, several hours are needed to create the course room and arrange for access for the learners. • One hour per week is needed for online support and maintenance. • Online activities can be reused for future courses.
