  1. API TG for 6A718Inclusion of Additional Alloy 718 Strength Classes Rashmi Bhavsar 27 June 2013 Washington, DC

  2. Agenda • Background • Inclusion of Alloy 718 – Class 140 KSI • Current status • Future testing

  3. Background • Alloy 718 Class 120 KSI included in API Standard 6A718, 1st and 2nd Editions • Manufacturers can supply Class 125 KSI, 130 KSI, and 135 KSI Alloy 718 while meeting the NACE max hardness limit of 40 HRC and the API 6A718 solution anneal and age hardening cycles • Alloy 718 Class 140 KSI desired, but does not meet the age hardening cycle in API Standard 6A718

  4. Inclusion of Alloy 718 Class 140 KSI Mechanical Properties

  5. Current Status • The API 6A718 TG approved the inclusion of Alloy 718 Class 140 KSI with a maximum hardness of 40 HRC (in compliance with NACE MR0175/ISO15156) with 1400F min age during April 2nd meeting • API Standard 6A718 currently has a 1425 F minimum • The API 5CRA TG has also recently included Alloy 718 Class 140 KSI grade with the similar requirements • Acceptance was based on successful testing for SCC and hydrogen embrittlement presented by a supplier and presentation from the past meetings

  6. Future Testing • The committee decided to focus on testing alloy 718 with 140 ksi and higher minimum yield strength at 43HRC max hardness for SCC and hydrogen embrittlement. • The testing to be done on heats provided by three different suppliers • To be balloted for inclusion in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 with the higher maximum hardness • The test details to be agreed upon at the next API 6A 718 meeting
