  2. MÓR THAN (1828, Óbecse - 1899, Trieszt) Pintor húngaro, Mór Than começou sua carreira  artística no estúdio de Miklós Barabás, quando estudava advocacia em Pest. Em 1851 foi para Viena como aluno de C. Rahl, mudando-se para Paris em 1855. Ao retornar à Hungria foi muito bem-sucedido em todos os gêneros de pintura, mas decidiu deslocar-se para Roma em 1857, onde residiu por três anos.

Seu primeiro trabalho expressivo, Nyáry and Pekry's Arrest, 1859,  antecipou uma série de composições históricas (The Battle of Mohács, 1855, King Imre Arrests his Rebellion Brother, 1857, Recruiting before 1848, 1861, János Vitéz Teaches János Hunyadi the Latin Language, 1882, Péter PázmányDictates, 1885, etc.). Em 1860 Tahn estabeleceu-se em Pest, onde, em 1864, trabalhou numa série de afrescos no Vigadó, junto com Károly Lotz, o que o tornou um pintor altamente valorizado. "Fata Morgana"  alcançou muito sucesso no Salon de Paris. Na década de 1880 voltou a morar na Itália. Pertencente à  Gallery of the Hungarian National Museum desde 1890, tornou-se seu diretor em 1896 por um curto período.

Além de telas históricas, Tahn pintou retratos (Franz Liszt, Ferenc Deák, Mrs. Polyxena Hampel-Pulszky, Self-Portrait, The Sun andthe Fata Morgana's Love , 1866, Priamus with the Corpse of Hector, 1877, A Scene from 'The Tragedy of Man'), pinturas de história sacra (Mater Dolorosa, St. Cecilly, 1868), pinturas em geral (Italian Genre Picture, 1860, The Fortune Teller, 1861, Stella, 1863, e Bathing Girl, 1880), além de afrescos no estilo acadêmico (Vigadó, the Foyer of the Opera, etc.).
