  1. ADRICOSM-EXT Wrap-up meeting Roma, November 20-21, 2006 WP3: Data Management system Task 3.2 Organisation of a delayed mode data archiving system for the Adriatic Sea Task 3.5 GIS development for coastal areas of the Adriatic Sea Alessandra Giorgetti, Donata Melaku-Canu & Renzo Mosetti, OGS-OGANODC/IOC & ECHO, OGS-BIO IDRO • OUTLINE • The OGS-NODC data archiving & validation system • Integration of MFS and ADRICOSM data • MEDAR/MedAtlas data format & QC protocols • Hydrological & biological data and meta-data: OGS-BIO former LBM contribution • GIS-based climatological study in the Northern Adriatic sea

  2. OGS National Oceanographic Data Centre/IOC The OGS-NODC oceanographic database includes 148 millions of measures of physical and biogeochemical parameters collected in the Mediterranean sea since the beginning of the century. Data and meta-data are archived on a Oracle relational DB and validated according to UNESCO/IOC and ICES standards. All meta-data are public while access to data follows a Data Policy. The OGS-NODC Web Portal gives access to all available information: http://nodc.ogs.trieste.it/

  11. Data Quality Control: • QC0 – Check of the format: completeness of information; • QC1 - Check of the header: date and position, duplicates; • QC2 – Check of the parameter: automatic & with data point visualization: • broad range check (min and max limits), • statistical check (reference climatology), • check for spikes, • vertical stability check. Flag scale values proportional to the level of error: 0 – No QC 1 – correct value 2 - value inconsistent with climatology 3 - dubious value 4 – false value 5 - modified value (for QC1 only)

  12. Data Quality Control:

  13. Additional hydrological & biological data and meta-data Meteorological, physical, bio-geo-chemical and biological data collected in the Gulf of Trieste since 1990 are available under request. Biological data are coded following the guidelines of NODC and the meteo-marine data classification is in agreement with WMO code. • Screenshot of project manager • Screenshot of the biological species manager

  14. Other examples of OGS-BIO former LBM data bank • Screenshot of salinity field (June 2005) • Screenshot of biological data plot

  15. Temperature fields Winter Spring Summer Autumn Salinity fields Winter Spring Summer Autumn • A GIS approach for a climatological study of temperature and salinity in the Northern Adriatic sea from Codermaz et al. • integration of SST remote sensing data, oceanographic data and meteorological data
