  5. Overview • This project is a Rube-Goldberg device, a machine that performs a simple task in multiple steps. The device highlights the change from kinetic energy to potential energy back to kinetic energy in several steps utilizing the roll of a billiard ball through hills, springs, and loops and finally, ringing a bell at the end. We were given a budget of $25 for supplies and a few weeks to complete the device.

  6. Design

  7. Each Step • Step 1 – Ball released = PE to KE • Step 2 – Ball falls on to track from other track = PE + KE to KE • Step 3 – Ball hits spring = KE + PE to KE

  8. Steps • Step 4 – 8 ball collides with 2 ball = Collision • Step 5 – 2 ball rolls down track and flips switch = PE to KE • Step 6 – Switch turns on light = Magic of Electricity

  9. Conclusion • What we planned and what actually happened were completely different • Balls are not all the same mass but we figured that at the beginning they were all the same mass • Our project works ( Most of the time )
