  1. Oh the Places We Will Go !!!! SS5G1 The student will locate important places in the United States. a. Locate important physical features; include the Grand Canyon, Salton Sea, Great Salt Lake, and Mojave Desert. b. Locate important man-made places; include the Chisholm Trail; Pittsburgh, PA; Gettysburg, PA; Kitty Hawk, NC; Pearl Harbor, HI; and Montgomery, AL.

  3. The Grand Canyon is a deep gorge in Northwest Arizona. • 1 mile deep • 277 miles long • Formed by the Colorado River The Grand Canyon

  5. Salton Sea • Largest lake in the state of California • Large depression 240 feet below sea level. • Colorado River overflow made the Salton Sea • Very Salty Salton Sea

  9. Mojave Desert • Covers 25,000 square miles in southeastern California • Flat areas • Mountain ranges • Hot- temperature in the summer is 120 degrees!!!! Mojave Desert

  12. Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania Pittsburgh is a Pennsylvania city that is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturing centers. Pittsburgh grew as a manufacturing center because important raw materials under its soil-the iron ore and coal needed to make iron and steel.

  13. Gettysburg- Pennsylvania town where Civil War battle was fought. It was the turning point in the war.

  14. Kitty Hawk North Carolina-on the coast where the Wright Brothers made their first airplane flight.

  15. Pearl Harbor-Hawaii Navy base attacked by Japanese planes on December 7, 1941.

  16. Montgomery Alabama- City where Martin Luther King, Jr. led a famous bus boycott along with Rosa Parks.
