The Holy Grail…….. • A Single Comprehensive Electronic Dictionary of Medicinal Products (and Personal Medical Devices) to support Clinical Care across all sectors of the Health Service • to support the EHR, ETP, and patient record transfer • Now also looking at the supply/logistics chain and industry involvement, including bar coding issues

  3. Progress to Date • PCDD being populated • SCDD being prototyped • Testing processes being planned • ISB acceptance being investigated • Devices Dictionary work commenced • Implementation, Distribution and Roll Out work being scoped

  4. Communications • Website • Launch to the Clinical Professions • User Roadshow • Professional Conferences (BPC etc.) • Launch/Update to System Suppliers • Suppliers’ Fora • Suppliers’ List Server • Technical List Server • For all interested parties • Demonstration CD

SCDD Prototype Development • Build physical database from Model • Build data entry tools • Build a test database • Range of Coverage • All formulations; dry powder injections, liquid injections etc. • ‘Secondary Care’ specific products; radiopharmaceuticals etc. • Expand the Editorial Policy & SNF • For the Secondary Care specific items • For attributes needed more specifically in Secondary Care • Formulation & Route of Administration “harmonisation” • Build Work Instructions

Editorial Policy • Guiding data entry into the dictionary • Uses patterns and examples from various object groups (e.g. solid dose forms, inhalers, liquid injections etc.) to ensure consistency of data entry • Defines the SNF for descriptive naming • Governs supplementary dictionaries (e.g. for flavour, manufacturers etc.) • Foundational for Implementation Guidance - a vocabulary for clinical use • Editorial Board
