  1. All You Need to Know about Physiotherapy Physical therapy is the care of orthopedic problems, injuries and impairments. Also known as physiotherapy, it is considered primary care and helps in increasing mobility and function lost to old age or injury. It can help an affected person to perform their daily lives in a smoother and easier way. The different kinds of practices of physical therapy can include: orthopedic (related to musculoskeletal system and post-orthopedic surgery care), integumentary (related to skin and associated organs), geriatric (related to the process of normal aging), neurological (related to neurological disorders or diseases), cardiopulmonary and pediatric (related to disorders in early life). Physical therapy is carried out through various evidence-based treatments using mechanical force and movements, manual therapy, exercise therapy, amongst others. There is great scientific evidence of its efficacy treating and preventing pain and injury.

  2. Physiotherapists work to ensure both immediate relief and prevention of future recurrence of the issue. First, by reducing the pain in soft tissues of muscles, tendons and ligaments. Then, by working on improving the muscle strength and mobility. Treatment of sports injuries constitutes a big part of physiotherapy in Singapore. A physical therapy clinic specializing in sports-related practices gets maximum cases of pulled muscle, shin splints, shoulder impingement, runner’s knee, tennis elbow, ankle sprain, Achilles tendinitis, and so on. It is important to remember that physiotherapy might not achieve the desired results if the patients are not disciplined enough to keep up with the routine visits and recommended exercises. A physical therapy procedure can take as long as 6 to 8 weeks to obtain the full benefits. Sometimes, patients leave midway as soon as they start feeling better, but this not recommended as it can often result in the subsequent recurrence of the problem. Patients also give up prematurely because they feel the pain has gotten worse after a few sessions. However, sometimes the pain can be attributed to a redistribution of the workload to back to smaller unused muscles that help ensure proper biomechanical movement. This pain is merely the muscle ache of muscles that have not been properly used and is temporary and can actually good for the patient as their body learns to move the correct way again.
