  1. 10 Unique Community Events to Bring Your Community Together https://www.thepromoapp.com/

  2. Living in any community has a certain sense of togetherness. Whether it’s a suburban neighborhood, a college campus,or a small town, people will form relationships. The closeness of your community all depends on how often you interact. This is of course dependent on your schedules and free time to socialize. Regardless, it’s important to stay in touch, and community events are ideal, especially in 2021 after the year of relative isolation we’ve just had.  By hosting regular community events, you keep locals in touch and are able to form new relationships. Those who already know each other can also use this time to maintain friendships they’ve built. It’s also a great way to connect over a cause. With that being said, coming up with ideas for these kinds of events can be time-consuming. But organizing them doesn’t have to be a headache. Read on for ideas for 10 community events that will help boost your local event scene.

  3. 1. A Good Old Cookout

  4. A neighborhood cookout is one of the most traditional, yet effective, ways to interact with your community. Decide on a day (most likely over a weekend or public holiday) and get everyone together. As the organizer, you can allocate different duties to different households. A cookout is a great way for both kids and adults to socialize. As community events go, it’s little to no effort, and won’t cost a lot of money.

  5. 2. Family Quiz Night Another great low-effort, high-reward idea is a quiz night. This is more suited to adults, but a kid-friendly version can also be arranged. Make the night interesting by mixing teams, and not sticking to households. It could be men vs women or even different sports teams vs each other.  Depending on what your community likes, you can make the topic of the quiz just about anything. However, your best bet will always be general knowledge, to keep things fair. Not everyone is a sports fanatic, or an expert on Friends.

  6. 3. A DIY Wine Tasting Experience

  7. Local community events don’t have to be outdoors all the time. For those who have a community of wine drinkers, this is a fun way to get everyone together. With it being the height of summer, this is a great weekend activity. You don’t have to be an expert in wine to host one of these either. Visit this article on a step-by-step guide on hosting a wine tasting at home. From the setup to which eats to serve, it has you covered.

  8. 4. Community Closet Share Instead of the traditional yard sale that will cost money, why not do swapping? Each household can put out the clothes and other household items they don’t need anymore. Neighbors can then browse through and see what could be of use to them, and swap it for an item the other person may need.  This will work great if you are in college and have a lot of students living around you. Stretching your budget during this time is so important, so this could be very helpful.

  9. 5. ‘Come Dine With Me’ Competition This one is for the foodies. Popular reality show ‘Come dine with me’ consists of different people hosting a dinner party at their home, with the winner taking away cash as a prize.  You of course don’t have to make cash the prize, but something of value will be great to boost interest. Traditionally, four or five households take part, but this will change depending on the size of your local community. Having dinners at different homes will also give you a chance to get to know your neighbors better.

  10. 6. Neighborhood Movie Night Another amazing community event idea is to hold a movie night. To take it to the next level, host it cinema-style!  It doesn’t need much planning and will be great for both adults and kids.  Besides snacks, a projector, and a couple of blankets, nothing else is needed. Your best bet is to stick to some classic movies that everyone will love. If it becomes a regular community event, you can begin introducing themed nights too! Or each movie night, a different household can pick the movie. You could then match the snacks to the theme. For example, Italian-themed movies could be enjoyed with pizza and wine.

  11. 7. Volunteering For Local Charities Regardless of where you stay, there will always be people in need of a helping hand. And what better way to come together as a community than to give back? Find out which charitable organizations operate around you, and start planning how you can give back.  You could arrange for a weekly sandwich-making session if you know there are many homeless persons in your area. Or, have a monthly donation drive to collect money for a local charity. This is a great way to introduce kids to altruism or to help new neighbors learn more about the area.

  12. 8. Friday Happy Hour Most people can agree that a drink (alcoholic or otherwise) is perfect after a day’s work, even more so at the start of the weekend. Why not organize a monthly Friday evening happy hour for your community? Suggest for it to be hosted at a different home each month, with the host responsible for a fun drink idea. People will still be expected to contribute to the evening, of course, but the host will surprise guests with the drink of choice.  Depending on everyone’s schedules, it doesn’t have to be a long event, but rather a one-hour wind down after a busy week.

  13. 9. Community Clean-up Perhaps not the most exciting idea, but definitely an important one! This is a community event that’s frequency depends on where you live, and how busy it gets. Some neighborhoods have lots of litter, so a good idea to bring everyone together and boost community pride is to host a regular clean-up. Everyone in the area can come together to play their part and pick up litter around the community.

  14. 10. Build a Community Garden

  15. Many communities around the world are trying to become more sustainable and to support local businesses. A great way to do this is to build a community garden. If you aren’t too keen on sharing one garden with a whole neighborhood, each household could build one depending on which fresh produce they use.  The fun in this lies in learning how to garden together. It is also a great way to stay in touch with community members to see how their garden is growing. You could even arrange weekly or monthly gardening days, where you share tips and tend to your gardens together.  These ideas for community events are great to apply to any type of area, and can be modified depending on what’s possible for you.
