What will happen next? • Subject to Royal Assent in 2014, the Care Bill will allow for regulations to be laid for rating providers. • Assuming the Care Bill receives Royal Assent those regulations will be laid in 2014 to enable ratings to begin. • We will hold a round table event to consider the issue of providers being able to pay for additional inspections to inform our consultation proposals in spring 2014. • We will work with stakeholders to develop the ratings system so that we have a set of proposals we can formally consult upon in Spring 2014.

Increase in sites offering information on perceived quality of care services • Main types: • Assessment and Approval • Consumer Feedback – Trip Advisor style • Listing Sites also increasing – links to CQC are most common quality check • n.b. Some established listing sites starting to introduce ratings facility • Why does it matter? Web search is becoming the most common tool for finding goods/services Reputation/Competition/Marketing And now CQC

  6. October bulletin In October, care provider profiles notched up almost 100,000 visits which means the buzz around these profiles continues to grow. We are also seeing more reviews and ratings being left by the public. This is great news for the thousands of care providers who have updated their profiles.

Press release Department of Health • comments from the public on their experience of care and services, including links to existing comment sites • from next month (May) the ability for the public to give services star ratings • Ofsted-style ratings for care services as they are developed • David Behan: • “As this online resource develops, care homes and other registered care and support services will expand their profiles to include performance against specific standards to allow people to compare different providers. This will include falls, bed sores, medication management, staff stability, training of staff as well as missed and timely visits for home care.” • The Department of Health has been engaging with a number of third party websites to • bring their social care reviews into NHS Choices. The following organisations have helped • make comments from their site available to NHS Choices, with more set to follow: • Good Care Guide • Compare Care Home • Really Care • Yourcarehome.co.uk • Social Care Institute for Excellence • Search Care

Obtaining your editing rights To obtain editing rights for your profile, please contact thechoicesteam@nhschoices.nhs.uk, providing your full name, email address, job title, contact number and postcode for each care organisation profile you would like to manage. If your care service is part of a larger organisation or operates from several sites, please contact your head office in the first instance before requesting editing access.

  14. Active Support is an evidence based model of support that increases participation in everyday life for people with learning disabilities, at home and in the community. There is a considerable amount of evidence that shows that where Active Support is embedded within a service it has effectively increased the amount and quality of support provided by staff, to people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, enabling a person to have a better quality of life. People are supported to take part in their own lives with just the right amount of support to achieve successful outcomes.
