It was founded in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and is considered one of the most popular and lucrative cricket leagues in the world. The IPL is played every year between March and May and features eight teams representing different cities in India. History of IPL The idea of IPL was first proposed in 2007 by the BCCI, with the aim of creating a league that could compete with other T20 leagues around the world. The first season of IPL was played in 2008 and was won by the Rajasthan Royals. Over the years, the league has grown in popularity and has attracted top international players. IPL has also had its share of controversies, including spot-fixing scandals and allegations of corruption. Teams of IPL Currently, there are eight teams in IPL, each representing a different city in India. The teams are Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Each team is owned by a franchise, and players are selected through an auction process before the start of the season. Format of IPL The IPL follows a round-robin format, where each team plays the other teams twice in the league stage. The top four teams in the league table qualify for the playoffs, which include two qualifiers, an eliminator, and a final. The team that wins the final is declared the IPL champions.
