  1. PEOPLE Breaking Barriers The Inspiring Journey of Shaliza Dhami the First Woman Officer in the Indian Air Force.  BY MOHIT-KUMAR-SHARMA  MAR 08, 2023 11:47 

  2. Shaliza Dhami is an inspiring figure who has made history as the first woman to become an officer in the Indian Air Force (IAF). Her story is one of determination, perseverance, and breaking down barriers in a male-dominated field. Born in 1994 in Uttarakhand, India, Shaliza Dhami was always interested in pursuing a career in the armed forces. She studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dehradun and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation from the Jain University in Bengaluru. In 2016, Shaliza Dhami applied to the Indian Air Force as a commissioned officer. She underwent a rigorous selection process, which included physical and psychological tests, and was ultimately successful. She was commissioned into the IAF on June 18, 2017, as a Flying Officer. Shaliza's journey as an officer in the IAF was not an easy one. As the first woman officer in the IAF, she faced many challenges and had to work twice as hard to prove herself. She trained on the Pilatus PC-7 Mk II aircraft, an advanced trainer aircraft used by the IAF, and completed over 500 hours of flying. Shaliza Dhami's dedication and hard work paid off, and she was awarded the 'Wings' on December 16, 2017. This made her the first woman fighter pilot in the history of the IAF. She was also awarded the President's Plaque for being the best trainee in her course. In an interview, Shaliza Dhami said that she never faced any discrimination from her male colleagues in the IAF. She added that they were supportive of her and treated her as an equal. However, she acknowledged that being a woman in the IAF came with its own set of challenges. She had to work harder to prove herself and earn the respect of her colleagues. Shaliza Dhami's achievement has paved the way for other women who aspire to join the IAF. It has shattered the glass ceiling and opened up new opportunities for women in the armed forces. It has also sent a powerful message that women are capable of doing anything they set their minds to. Shaliza Dhami is an inspiration to women everywhere, and her story serves as a reminder that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. She has shown
