  1. Some Important Things To Consider When Moving Overseas If you are going to move overseas it can be an exciting experience, but it can also be stressful, and requires a considerable amount of planning. If you don’t get everything just right, it can cost you money. Even if you do get everything just right it is going to cost money because the process is not cheap. The very first thing to do is to take a serious look at all of the belongings that you have and decide which of them to leave behind, give to friends, give to charity, sell with a garage sale, or take to the tip. The simple fact is that the less that you take, the less it is going to cost you. The next thing to do is to decide on the method of transport. Air freight is fastest, wherever you are going, but sea freight is anything

  2. up to eighteen times cheaper! Yes, eighteen times. There is no time to hang around, either. You need to start contacting shipping companies at least three to four months before the date you want to move. If you leave it too late your belongings could arrive several weeks after you do. Assuming that you will be flying to your new home even though your belongings are going the watery way, you need to buy your tickets well in advance to get the best rates. According to Skyscanner you should buy your tickets seven weeks in advance for short-haul flights and 18 weeks in advance for long-haul. There is even a right day to buy tickets. Most airlines will tell you to buy on a Sunday, while the worst day is a Wednesday. When it comes to shipping containers you have the choice of FCL – full container load – or LCL – less than container load. With FCL you pay a flat fee for a 20’ or 40’ container which is all yours. With LCL you are sharing a container with other people. LCL is the cheapest way if you only have a small amount to ship, but it is around 2-3 times more expensive per cubic metre than FCL. That means that if you have more than about 15 cubic metres to ship it is cheaper to go FCL even if you don’t fill the container. Of course, you will need cargo insurance in the UK, and this can be a little complicated because there are different methods of insuring. We can help you with this at The Insurance Broker because cargo insurance is one of our specialities. All Risk insurance covers you for pretty well everything, but there are exceptions such as war or earthquakes. If you want full coverage, the

  3. most comprehensive insurance is warehouse to warehouse which covers your goods from when you drop them off to when you pick them up again at the other end. This is the most expensive, as you might gather. Then there is named perils insurance. This is cheaper because it only covers you for particular items that you specify. Total loss is even cheaper, but it doesn’t cover damage: it only comes into play if the ship and cargo are lost. Single coverage insures you for one trip only. There is also open coverage which allows for any number of trips over a certain time period, but this is not really necessary unless you are shipping abroad regularly. Finally, there is general average insurance. It may seem strange but if other people’s goods are lost everybody else has to chip in a portion to cover them. If you are looking for cargo insurance in the UK, we can help you find the right policy for your trip.
