  1. The Movement Of Art Nouveau The Movement Of Art Nouveau Art Nouveau (the term comes from French and it means New Art) is the name for the artistic movement that started in Europe around 1890 and lasted until around 1910.It is the ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewellery and glass design, posters, and illustration. Art nouveau could be said to be the first 20th century modern style. It was the first style to stop looking backwards in history for ideas, taking inspiration instead from what it saw around it, in particular the natural world. Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a Scottish architect, designer, sculptor and decorative artist, associated with the Arts & Crafts Movement, but is best known as the United Kingdom's greatest proponent of Art Nouveau.

  2. This art style mainly manifested in visual arts, design and architecture. This style was spread pretty fast throughout Europe thanks to photo-illustrated art magazines and international exhibitions. Its name differed according to each country, so it was called “Modernisme” in Catalonia, “Liberty” in Italy, “Jugendstil” in Germany, “Secession” in Vienna or Prague. The Art Nouveau artists shared the belief that all arts should work in harmony in order to create a “total work of art”: buildings, textiles, furniture, jewellery, clothes all conformed to the principles of Art Nouveau.
