INTRODUCTION Adult ADHD is a type of neurodevelopmental condition that displays persistent hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity patterns that impede daily functioning and interpersonal interactions. SYMPTOMS OF ADULT ADHD #1 Often has trouble staying focused on tasks at work, home or plays #2 Avoids tasks that require long periods of mental focus #3 Is easily distracted #4 Extreme impatience HOW IS AN ADHD DIAGNOSIS MADE? Exhibit many impulsive or inattentive symptoms before the age of 12. Behaviour challenges that go beyond what is age-appropriate for them. Behaviour interferes with social life or Workplace tasks. TREATMENT Medication is the most common and effective way to treat ADHD, and multiple types of medications can treat it. A few examples of those types include stimulants, non-stimulants and antidepressants. WHO CAN HELP? For adults, an ADHD diagnostic evaluation should be conducted by a licensed mental health professional or a physician. These professionals include clinical psychologists, physicians or clinical social workers.
