  1. THURSDAY August 26th, 2010 Online Lesson Conceptual Physics • LESSON GOALS: • Assign reading to build and reinforce Energy background knowledge • Introduce & Assign “Energy Transfer vs. Transformation” activity • Discuss labs for next week http://mrlafazia.com/PHYS111/lessons/201011Fall/PHYS111_02.ppt 1/13

  2. Energy Lab-Quest • I have put together an online lab-quest for you. Originally I made this with small lab groups in mind, but it is very easily done by individuals, as well. (The only difference is the level of discussion, for the most part). • On the following slides I will lead you through the assignment. This assignment should not take you more than the amount of time it would take to finish a class (for us, about 2.5 hours). However, since it is being given as an online assignment you may use as much time as you need (until Tuesday’s class, at which point you should turn this in for a grade). 2/13

  3. Energy Lab-Quest (Intro.) • Print out (or organize a blank sheet for the responses) the following document: • http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/EnergyTransformations.doc • For the text-files, I have written out mini-lessons (as if I were giving you a small “lecture”). You will then answer the “subquests” for each text-file. • For the video files, I have written questions on the “Energy Transformations” document, itself (as opposed to just leaving blank spaces). • FIRST: Read Sections 5.7 – 5.12 in the text. (And yes, I am aware that textbooks can be confusing—you may supplement with online resources). 3/13

  4. Energy Lab-Quest (Part 1/6) http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/01.txt Read the mini-lesson from the above text-file and answer the Sub-Quest questions (#’s 1-5) 4/13

  5. Energy Lab-Quest (Part 2/6) http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/02.asx Watch the video-clip at the above link and answer the questions which are on the word document. 5/13

  6. Energy Lab-Quest (Part 3/6) http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/03.txt Read the mini-lesson from the above text-file and answer the Sub-Quest questions (#’s 1-4) 6/13

  7. Energy Lab-Quest (Part 4/6) http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/04.asx Watch the video-clip at the above link and answer the questions which are on the word document. 7/13

  8. Energy Lab-Quest (Part 5/6) http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/05.asx Watch the video-clip at the above link and answer the questions which are on the word document. 8/13

  9. Energy Lab-Quest (Part 6/6) http://mrlafazia.com/labs/quests/EnergyTransformations/06.txt Read the mini-lesson from the above text-file and answer the Sub-Quest questions (#’s 1-3) 9/13

  10. HMWK #0 • Since this online lesson already consists of a reading assignment and a lab-quest, I will not be assigning any separate homework. 10/13

  11. Recommended Reading: Sections 5.7 – 5.12 (It just so happens that this is also REQUIRED reading for this lesson’s activity…) 11/13

  12. Poem: None today (I prefer to do these IN PERSON…for the applause of course). 12/13

  13. Looking Ahead: • It is my expectation that we will be able to have class face-to-face this upcoming Tuesday (8/31). In that event, we will be spending the majority of class doing labs on the Scientific Method (and looking at your HMWK #1 assignment). Then, on that Thursday, we will continue looking at Energy concepts. 13/13
