  2. Location • Major Cities by Population: • 1) New York City-- 8.008,278 • 2) Philadelphia--1,517,550 • 3) Boston 645,149 • Landforms and Resources: • Appalachian Mountains, Atlantic ocean, Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, valleys, and hills

Location 2 • South of Canada, left of Atlantic ocean, right of the Midwest, north of the southeast • Latitude and Longitude of New York City: 40 ̊N 73 ̊W • *What could be some of the reasons people chose to live in this region or large city? Many people would like to live here because of the cities and there are many things to do and that is what seems to attract people.

  4. Place • Mainly Irish, Catholic, Lutheran, ball dropping on new year's eve in Time Square • Major Landforms are listed in the first slide of location. • Major Resources: coal, oil, iron, gravel, natural gas, sand, stone, zinc, lumber • Weather Patterns: Cool to hot summers, cold winters, about 46 inches of total rainfall and snowfall per year, average July temperature is 69 ̊F and in January the average temperature is 21 ̊F

  5. Place 2 • *What effect does climate have on settlement patterns in the region? Some people may like the hot weather in summer but their jobs are in the major cities so they just have to deal with the cold of winter to remain employed.

  6. HEI • Economic Issues: Wall Street in NYC having issues with money in the market, there is lots of house becoming foreclosed, lots of unemployment • How has climate effected settlement in the region? • Since there are jobs in the major cities, and more tourist attractions the climate doesn't really matter as long as there are things to do.

  7. HEI 2 • *How has pollution affected the lives of the people in the region? • Pollution can make people sick if there is too much and it doesn’t look good in the city. It's not good to have a lot when there is over population in the city.

  8. Movement • People have picked to live in this region because there are lot of fun things that you can do in the cities. • There are many airports, subways, trains, cars, taxis, running, walking, bikes to transport goods. • Traditions: The ball in Time Square dropping on New Year's Eve, there is also the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC. • *What might happen if one or more of the major transportation routes within the region were interrupted? • It would really depend on which one, was interrupted. If it was the car, there would be many problems because many people use a car to get to work or run errands.

Regions • Major Tourist Attractions: Patriot's Football Stadium, Time Square, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Giant's Football Stadium, Jet's Football Stadium, 5th Avenue, Carlos Bakery • Any Unique Characteristics?: There are some of the most populated cities in the USA. • *What economic impact does the region have on the U.S. economy? • Some places are bringing in money and some are loosing money because some decisions are made before there are actually thought through.
