  1. RF Availability at CERN A Proposal H. Haseroth CERN Availability of amplifiers MICE Meeting at RAL

  2. RF equipment at CERN Principal layout Modulator (Hard Tube or Delay Line Type) Power Amplifier “Final Amplifier” Amplifier”Driver” Oscillator Gate Amplifier Cavity MICE Meeting at RAL

  3. Electrical power and cooling needs for the 88 MHz option in ICE • Advantage of the 10 Hz option • Do it for 1 Hz operation Overall needs in infrastructure: H. Ullrich MICE Meeting at RAL

  4. What is needed to proceed: Exact frequency (assume 202.56 MHz) Power requirements (assume 2  3.5 to 4 MW) Needs simulations to determine accuracy of emittance measurements. This determines the needed cooling factor and hence the RF power. This determines the mains power and to a good extent the cost and duty cycle: (assume 1 Hz, 350 s = 150 + 200 s) Stability: assume ±1% and ± 2 deg) MICE Meeting at RAL

  5. RF Power Amplifiers available at CERN/PS : 60 kCHF for TH116   200 kCHF + 60 Total: 320 kCHF 202.56 MHz final amplifiers: 1 amplifier (spare for Linac2) 2 MW, upgraded to 4 MW 1 amplifier (from Linac1, needs refurbishing for 200 kCHF) 4 MW with triode tube TH 116 MICE Meeting at RAL

  6. RF Driver Amplifiers available at CERN/PS 3 amplifiers 350 (400) kW, one available now, 2 more in a few years (with Siemens tube no longer built). Still several spare tubes in stock. One tube good for up to 15 000 h in 300ms, 1 Hz, not full power regime. Needs power supply for 40 kCHF. Switching via cathode (5 kCHF). Total for Driver: 90 kCHF Total for amplifiers 410 kCHF + Modulator for 1 power amplifier (state of present one?) AND rf-plumbing AND controls with low level rf MICE Meeting at RAL

  7. For the draft proposal: 5.1 Cavities 5.2 Windows, couplers, tuners 5.3 Power Supplies, (cavities) et al.: rf amplifiers, modulators, controls 5.3a Layout of whole system, including low-level, controls, feedback etc. 5.4 achievable performance 5.5 services and safety 5.6 responsibilities, cost and time-line MICE Meeting at RAL
