No dependence on God – Luke 12:15-21; 1 Tim. 6:17. • "Beware" (v. 15). Danger; alarm word. "Beware of covetousness."

  10. When Man Is Weak: • “Then comes the devil…” • Attacks most vulnerable point…need for watching, guarding • Goes after the stragglers. • Matt. 4.2 Approached Christ when hungry, thirsty; appeals to our weaknesses • More than physical weaknesses…

  11. When Man Is Strong: • “Then comes the devil…” • Peter – Matt. 26.33-35 • Reason for Paul’s “thorn in the flesh” – 2 Cor. 12.7-10

  12. When The Church Enjoys Success: • “Then comes the devil…” • Corinthian church blessed with spiritual gifts, “came behind in none” 1 Cor. 1.7 • Yet puffed up, not mourning deplorable sins – 1 Cor. 5 • Today????

  13. When Trying to Make Correction of Sin: • “Then comes the devil…” • Can be self-righteous, vindictive spirit – Gal. 6.1 • Devil can gain advantage if not careful– 2 Cor. 2.11

When Rebuked for Sin by the Word of God: • “Then comes the devil…” • Word is to be used to ‘reprove, correct’ – 2 Tim. 3.16 • Preachers, others use it to this end – 2 Tim. 4.2 • For the saving of the soul – 1 Cor. 5.5 • Devil (with help) tries to stir up mind not to receive reproof • Heb. 13.22 “…suffer the word of exhortation…” • Preacher becomes enemy – Gal. 4.16 • Word must have “free course” to accomplish its end – 2 Thess 3.1

When Mistreated By Others: • “Then comes the devil…” • All will suffer unfair treatment by others: If live right, will suffer (2 Tim. 3:12; Luke 17:1). • Devil comes to incite to take matters into own hands, retaliate. He tries to cause one to think his actions are justified. • "Avenge not yourselves..." (Rom. 12:19). "Let not the sun go down on your wrath...Neither give place to the devil" (Eph. 4:26-27).

  16. When Men Assemble to Worship God: • “Then comes the devil…” • The holiest of environment invaded by Satan – Job 1.6; 2.1 • Comes to cause men to offer insincere worship: with mouth, not heart; form rather than reality • What about you this morning???
