The Outsiders is written by S.E. Hinton. In this book there is a lot of irony. Irony is a literary term. I will tell you about irony in this paper.

Two-Bit Mathews is a character in S.E. Hinton’s realistic novel, The Outsiders. Two-Bit is portrayed as the jokester of the gang who drinks too much and has a good time all of the time. Although Two-Bit is a minor character in the novel, he is there through some very important times and tries to take care of his buddies the best he can.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a realistic story of internal and external conflict. While all novels must have conflict to actually be readable, this novel’s conflict goes beyond simple man vs. man. Ponyboy Curtis tells a tale of the struggle to fit in and be accepted by society while staying true to one’s own desires. Through Ponyboy’s eyes the reader sees what it is like to feel like an outsider but finally find a place in life.

When S.E. Hinton wrote the realistic novel The Outsiders, she was only sixteen years old. Because she was so young, and because she knew about the troubles of adolescence, she wrote powerfully. While many authors try to capture the feelings of teens, only those truly in the moment can do a good job. Through the character of Ponyboy Curtis, the author shows the reader conflict, heartache, and the adolescent search for identity.
