  2. Day 1 • Find the desk that matches the index card with your number • On the brightly colored index card write the following on the lined side. • Name First, Last, what you would like to be called, and address • Begin working on name plate

  3. About me • Mrs. Gillaspie • 5rd year teaching 7th grade science • Graduated from Sam Houston State with a degree in Criminal Justice • Start Graduate School this year at University of Houston • Married 5yrs (no kids) • I have 2 dogs named Bennie and Spaz • Russian Tortoise named Turtle

  10. Materials • Pen or pencils* • Composition Notebook Can buy from me if needed (75¢) • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils • Highlighters • Paper* * These items will be needed everyday

  11. Spirals aka Interactive Notebooks • Spirals are due Tuesday 8/31/12. I will be selling journals for 75 cents. For everyday that you do not have a spiral, I will call home. We will be working in the spiral daily. If • You may only buy one spiral from me for my class.

  12. Guidelines and Procedure • Guidelines/rules are what is expected of you. • Procedures are what and how you are supposed to do things.

  13. Guidelines and Procedures • When the bell rings be in your seat starting on your warm-up. • You are tardy if you are not in your seat when the bell rings • Sharpen your pencil before the bell rings. If you do not have a pencil or something to write with you may ask a neighbor.

  14. Guidelines and Procedures • Grab your INB’s from your assigned box and begin warm-ups. You have 5 min from the time the tardy bell rings to complete warm-ups. Warm-ups are graded, 20pts a day. 20pts X 5 days=100pts • Note taking- we will be using the Cornell method to take notes. **There will be INB’s checks for daily grades.

  15. Guidelines and Procedures • If you need my attention or have a question/problem, raise your hand and wait until I call on you. I will not answer a student that did not raise their hand. • When I need everyone’s attention I will say give me five. At that time you are to stop what you are doing and look at me.

  16. Guidelines and Procedures • Restroom policy: use restroom between classes. If you must go to the restroom you musthave your KAP folder (no folder, no pass). Must be attached and it must be your KAP folder.

  17. Guidelines and Procedures • Emergencies: if you are ill (about to puke) grab trashcan signal me that your sick have a buddy walk you to nurse. • If you finish work before bell rings, catch up on work in IBN’s.

  18. Guidelines and Procedures • Turning in work/INB’s: turn spirals into appropriate tubs and work into correct basket. • End of class: The bell does not dismiss you the teacher does. All materials are to be kept until each group is dismissed. At that time you may turn in spirals and work into proper place. • To be dismissed: all trash around desk must be picked up, material buckets must be in order and all group members must be in seats quietly waiting dismissal.

  19. Guidelines and Procedures • Grades: Major grades 60%, Daily grades 30%, and Homework grades 10%. • Late work or missing work: if work is late • Major grades: • 1st day -11 points then 10 points everyday after • Daily grades: • The highest grade that is give is a 75

Guidelines and Procedures • Make up work: If you are absent you have as many days as you were absent to make up the work. • Record the days that you were absent in your KAP folder. • If you miss a lab or a quiz you must attend tutorials to make up that grade. • Same late work rules apply for make up work.

Guidelines and Procedures • Groups: there are 7 groups, each group has 4 different colors, each color will be assigned a job when we do group projects. • Group Jobs: • Materials manager: get materials • Recorder: writes down ideas and findings • Reporter: reports the findings to the class • Time keeper: makes sure group is on task and manages time

  22. Daily agenda • As soon as you walk in grab INB’s from bucket. • Start warm-ups or the assignment post, as soon as you walk in the door. • If you finish warm-up before the five minutes work on your INB. • If you need supplies you must purchase the supplies before the warm-up is over. (5 min)

  23. School rules • Absolutely no electronics in my class. If I see an electronic I will take it up and turn it in. • Absolutely no candy or candy selling in my class. If you do I will turn in candy and money to the office. • Everyday I will check dress code. If you are in violation of dress code you will be sent to office.

  24. Classroom rules • Be prepared: having supplies everyday for class • Be on time: being in your seat starting warm ups, have pencil sharpened, and gone to the bathroom before the tardy bell rings. • Stay on task: work on assignment assigned in class and participate in discussion • No put downs: bullying is not allow or tolerated in class. Be respectful • Follow teachers instructions: it is very import to follow all directions/instructions in class.

  25. Contact Info • On the back of your colorful index card write Your name First and Last • List your parents names and a working number that I can contact them. • Write your address. • (Having a working number will be a grade)

  26. Goals • If you knew me… • On the back of your index card write three things down that if someone really new you they would know these three things. • Also on the back of your index card list 2 goals • 1 goal a academic goal • 1 goal a personal goal
