Introduction • Aim is to explore and collect information. • Familiar with high tech equipments and their usage, multimedia plays an important role • Teachers are encouraged to present their lessons in a way that they can get students full attention • Students will be motivated when they use different audio and visual aids. • There are many industries that use multimedia

  3. What is multimedia? Multimedia refers to a computer assisted technology that integrates various digital media types such as text, graphics, sound, video and animation into an integrated multi-sensory interactive application or presentation to convey a message or information to an audience (Lewis,1997).

  4. Elements of multimedia

  5. Text • It involves font, size, colours. • Other media screen can be linked through the use of hypertext (Mishra, 2005).

  6. Graphics • It provides the most creative learning sessions. • It can be photographs, drawings, graphs from a spreadsheet, pictures from CD-ROM, or something pulled from the Internet(Li & Drew 2004).

  7. Video • It brings a sense of realism to multimedia titles and is useful in engaging the user’s emotion (Li & Drew, 2004).

  8. Sound • Multimedia application may require the use of speech, music, and sound effects • The sound used in multimedia is digital sound. The WAVE format is one of the most popular sound formats on the Internet. (lewis,1997)

  9. Animation • A set of pictures simulating movement when played in series. • Animations are primarily used to demonstrate ideas or illustrating concepts. (Howell & Howell, 2002)

  10. History of Multimedia • Explain through book and using black board and chalk. • From elementary to universities, multimedia technologies are introduced. • Multimedia classes lead to more interaction. • Encourage school teachers to present lessons that increase students interest and accustom to modern technology • Many schools have multimedia class rooms

  11. Mediums of delivery And Its Advantages. • Multimedia lessons can be delivered in; • stand-alone CD-ROM • lessons on the World Wide Web (WWW) as a part of an e-Learning program.

  12. 1.Multimedia Presentation. • The easiest way is to create a multimedia presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint. • Easy to edit the presentation • Can create interesting lessons • More effective if use overhead projector. • More attractive the hi-fi audio video equipment can use • Different learning style of students can be included.

  13. 2.Interactive Whiteboard(Smart boards). • Effective way to interact with digital content and multimedia • The requirements special needs students can be addressed. • It can help educators streamline their preparations • more efficient in information communication technology (ICT) (STOA, 1997)

  14. 3.Internet • The World Wide Web offers abundant information which gives any required information • can create a blog or website for the students to refer back • can get is the large amount of information, which is fast and easy to access and is sufficiently general • Some of the places to find such useful data were online encyclopedias, search engines, discussion forums (Muller, Eklund, & Sharma, 2006).

Advantages of Multimedia • It enhance student understanding and review processes. • It helps to grab the attention • it gives more opportunity to be creative • It gives the ability to accommodate different learning styles • Computer assisted instruction are more attentive (Howell & Howell, 2002)

  16. Disadvantages of Multimedia • A lot of time is required to create the multimedia lessons to update it. • Requires high-end computer systems and bandwidth is important • The prerequisites for using multimedia include to computer with related software • Design of multimedia lessons brings more cost for training • In case of technical problems, computer may end up with temporary breakups

  17. Recommendation • Teachers should be in a position where they are familiar with multimedia technologies and are able to operate them efficiently • School managements should facilitate teachers with the different multimedia technologies • To ensure that good internet connections are available to apply multimedia applications • Multimedia should be available to be used in different types of learning processes.

  18. Conclusion • It is a powerful tool that really will help students to produce better results in the exam.
