United in a common cause they were once fighting under a single warlord, the Dux Bellorum. • From his strategic location, Arthur had use of both Hadrian’s Wall and the Antonine Wall with a total of 36 forts. • He also controlled the massive fortification of the former Sixth Legion citadel of Carlisle on the South Shore of the solway firth, on the western end of Hadrians wall. • This was the primary military strong hold in the entire region.
