  2. What we should be (v1-12) The 8 woes (v13-32) Consequence (v33-39) Will bear the consequences Desolation of Jerusalem

  3. 1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, 2 saying: • "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; • 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. • 4 " They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders, • but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. • 5 "But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; • for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. • 6 "They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, • 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men. • 8 "But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. • 9 "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. • 10 "Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. • 11 " But the greatest among you shall be your servant. • 12 " Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

  4. 1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, 2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. 4 " They tie upheavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. Taken the role of Moses—representing the law Why is the law of Moses, which Jesus asks his disciples to obey a heavy burden on their shoulders? Is law bad? A social vehicle to exercise intentions—may have started with good intentions. These roles phased out by God; or No check and balance be inclined to No motivation to even try!! Matt 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  5. 5 "But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; • for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. • 6 "They love • the place of honor at banquets and • the chief seats in the synagogues, • 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, • and being called Rabbi by men. Jewish aid to prayer: either of two small leather boxes containing slips of paper with scriptures written on them, traditionally worn by Jewish men during morning weekday prayers as reminders of their religious duties Because Source of motivation of pharisees Luke 16:13 You cannot serve both God and Money." 14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15 He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight. Love of money is directly related to seeking honor from man.

  6. 1 Cor 4:15 Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. James 3:1 Not many of you Should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 8 "But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 "Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11 "But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 " Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted. Matt 20:26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." 1 Peter 5:2-3 God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. Core of man’s problem—>licensed to sin

  7. 13 " But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. 14[" Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.] 15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. 16 "Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ' Whoever swears by the temple, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated.' 17 "You fools and blind men! Which is more important, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold? 18 "And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, that is nothing, but whoever swears by the offering on it, he is obligated.' 19 "You blind men, which is more important, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering? 20 "Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears both by the altar and by everything on it. 21 "And whoever swears by the temple, swears both by the temple and by Him who dwells within it. 22 "And whoever swears by heaven, swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.

  8. 23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. 24 "You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! 25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence. 26 "You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also. 27 " Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 "So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. 29 " Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, 30 and say, 'If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.' 31 "So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 "Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers. 33 "You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell? 34 "

  9. Matt 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven Matt 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Ex 22:22 "Do not take advantage of a widow or an orphan. 23 If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry. 24 My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless. 1 13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. 14[" Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.] A person not able to enter the Kingdom of God can not lead another into it. the sin of preventing another from entering the KoG is vast! 2 2 Tim 3:6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

  10. 3 15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. Wrong Zeal Gal 4:17 Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you [from us], so that you may be zealous for them. a convert, especially a Gentile turning to Judaism 4 16 "Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ' Whoever swears by the temple, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated.' 17 "You fools and blind men! Which is more important, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold? Isa 56:10 Israel's watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge Switched the essense with the modality

  11. 18 "And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, that is nothing, but whoever swears by the offering on it, he is obligated.' • 19 "You blind men, which is more important, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering? 20 "Therefore, • whoever swears by the altar, swears both by the altar and by everything on it. • 21 "And whoever swears by the temple, swears both by the temple and by Him who dwells within it. 22 "And whoever swears by heaven, swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it. Understand what it all means!

  12. 5 23 " Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. 24 "You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! Prov 21:3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. Matt 15:8-9 8'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. 9'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'" NASU Matt 15:2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!" 3 Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 5 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' 6 he is not to 'honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

  13. Direction of causality 6 탐심과 방종 방종의 극대화를 충족 시키기 위해서는 탐심이 필요 25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence. 26 "You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also. Prov 1:2-7 2 for attaining wisdom and discipline;for understanding words of insight; 3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; 4 for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-- 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-- 6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Prov 15:5 A fool spurns his father's discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.

  14. 7 27 " Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 "So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. The smell of death

  15. 우리가 현재 똑 같은 생각을 하고 있음 8 예수님의 진노 29 " Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Yet, there is hope

  16. 34 " Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city, 35 so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 "Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. 예수님의 고뇌 37" Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. 38 "Behold, your house is being left to you desolate! 39 "For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!'"

  17. Ex 13:16 And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead that the LORD brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand." Num 15:37 The LORD said to Moses, 38 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. 39 You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by going after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes.
