Domestic Violence in Georgia Domestic violence stands for violation of constitutional rights and freedoms of one family member by the other, in conjunction with physical, psychological or sexual violence, coercion or threat to undertake such actions. Source: The Law of Georgia on Elimination of domestic Violence, Protection of Victims of domestic Violence and their Assistance, Article 3, 2006)

Domestic Violence in Georgia Data Collected by MIA: • Number of a Restrictive Order that is primary source of data; • Name of victim; • Name of perpetrator; • Address, birth dates of both perpetrator and victim; • Form’s of violence; • Description of situation; • What decision was taken; • Address of shelter for a victim or of a rehabilitation center for a perpetrator; • Signature of responsible police officer. Statistical questionnaire “on registration on Domestic Violence Cases” adopted in 2007 by the MIA.

Domestic Violence in Georgia • No cases in 3 regions of Georgia; • There are 2 Shelters under control of the Ministry of Labour, Health & Social Security, and 4 under NGO; • The maximal capacity of NGO-run shelters is accommodation of 40 individuals at a time; • Duration of staying in shelter varies from 3 to 6 months.
