Enhancing English Language Achievement with Educational Computer Games in Gaza: A Study

This study investigates the impact of educational computer games on fifth graders' English language achievement in Gaza. The experimental approach was adopted with a sample of 70 male and 70 female students. Results showed significant improvement with the use of educational computer games. Recommendations include implementing this strategy for better outcomes in English language education.

  2. Abstract The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of educational computer games on the fifth graders' achievement in English language in Gaza Western Governorates. For answering the questions of the study , the researcher adopted the experimental approach. The sample of the study consisted of (70) male students from Beach Elementary Boys "A" school and (70) female students from Beach Preparatory Girls "G" school in Gaza. The educational computer games strategy was used in teaching the experimental group, while the traditional method was used with the control one in the first term of the school year (2011-2012). An achievement test was designed and validated to be used as a pre and post test. The data of the study were analyzed.

  3. The study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the fifth graders' achievement of English language due to the method in favor of educational computer games strategy. It also showed that there were significant differences in the students' total achievement including all the language skills in favor of the experimental group of both genders. But, the differences which directed in favor of the female experimental group, didn't promote to be a very significant. It should be mentioned that the differences between genders were clear in the mean in favor of the female experimental group. Based on those findings, the study recommended the necessity of implementing an educational computer games strategy in teaching English language to bring about better outcomes in students' achievement of English language.

  4. ملخص تهدف الدراسة الى بحث فعالية الألعاب التربوية المحوسبة على تحصيل مادة االلغة الانجليزية عند تلاميذ الصف الخامس بغرب محافظة غزة. تتخذ الدراسة المنهج التجريبي للتحقق من غرض البحث. وتشمل عينة الدراسة سبعين من تلاميذ الشاطئ الابتدائية أ، وسبعين من تلميذات الشاطئ الابتدائية ز. ويسخدم البحث أخطوطة (استراتيجية) الألعاب التربوية المحوسبة في تدريس الفرقة التجريبية، بينما تطبق الطريقة السائدة في تدريس الفرقة الضابطة. طبقت الدراسة في الفصل الأول لعام 2011-2012. صممت الدراسة فحصا تحصيليا وتحققت من صحته للتعرف على التحصيل القبلي والبعدي عند العيبنة.

  5. ظهرت بتحليل بيانات الدراسة فروق دالة احصائيا في مستوى تحصيل تلامذة الصف الخامس في اللغة الانجليزية تعزى الى طريقة التدريس لصالح مجموعة أخطوطة الألعاب التربوية المحوسبة . وظهرت أيضا فروقا دالة في مجمل تحصيل التلامذة لمهارات اللغة لصالح المجموعة التجريبية عند النوعين. في حين لم تكن الفروق لصالح مجموعة الإناث التجريبية ذات دلالة جوهرية. وجدير بالذكر أن الفروق في المتوسط بين النوعين كانت جلية لصالح مجموعة الإناث التجريبية. وتوصي الدراسة طبقا لهذه النتائج بضرورة تطبيق أخطوطة الألعاب التربوية المحوسبة في تدريس الانجليزية كيما يحقق تلامذة هذه المرحلة نتائج تحصيلية أفضل.
