  3. Brief History • Introduced as an Indoor Fun team athletics activity in 1976 by George Bunner and Ron Pickering – English Midlands • Subsequently developed throughout Britain and Europe • Now World wide and adapted recently by IAAF as a tool for the introduction and development of athletics

  4. Local Case History • Introduced to Donegal in 15 years ago [by accident] • Supported and Developed by Donegal Co. Board and in Post Primary Schools - Under 13/15 and 1st years • Team competitions – Inter County Under 13 and U15 • West and East Ulster finals; Ulster Finals; British Finals – Birmingham • Numerous individual and team successes over the years • Many of our current Senior athletes introduced to Sport via S.H.A.

  5. Recent Developments • Donegal Sports Partnership – • Primary school – club link programme • 6 clubs – 36 primary schools -6 weeks programme – jamborees • Donegal Co Board • Annual Inter club ‘little athletics’ league • 1st Yr Post primary schools league

  6. To start Sportshall Athletics - needs • Indoor facility, playgound, • Equipment • A group of Enthusiastic Adults – organisational skills
