  2. GBCHealth grew out of the efforts of forward-thinking international leaders who saw the then-untapped power of business to fight AIDS.

  3. Our History 1997 Nelson Mandela called for business leadership on AIDS; 17 companies stepped up 2000 U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan called for broader, deeper business engagement 2001 Ambassador Richard Holbrooke grew network with support from Soros, Turner, Gates: 100+ companies • Membership extended to formally include select group of major global health NGOs • Mandate expansion and formal name change

The Global Fund PSD • GBCHealth is the Focal Point for the Private Sector Delegation (PSD) to The Global Fund, the largest financial mechanism for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the world.   • The Global Fund is one of the most efficient avenues for business investment and it provides strategic opportunities for co-financing and collaboration on the ground. • GBCHealth brings the Private Sector voice and perspective to The Global Fund, giving corporate members the opportunity to actively engage in policy and strategy matters presented to the Board.

Business Action on Health in Latin America & the Caribbean Convenings around specific health issues (HIV/AIDS, nutrition, diabetes) and key industries (food, mining etc) Collective action initiatives with key partners such as PAHO, Slim Health Institute • Regional baseline survey project with Booz & Co. and Abt Associates • Collection and dissemination of Case Studies on best practice health programs

CEO Pledge – Advocacy Campaigns In 2009 more than 100 corporate leaders signed the GBCHealthCEO Non-discrimination Pledge In 2012 at the AIDS Conference in Washington D.C. mobilizing CEO’s to sign the CEO Travel Ban Pledge Campaign to call for end to travel restrictions for HIV+ individuals - 47 countries still have restrictions in place
