  4. Class vs. Course Class Course There are only two course choices for core subjects: general education courses and access courses Both are based on the same standards, but the level of complexity is very different Access points and courses are only for students with a significant cognitive disability and parental consent is required • The ideal situation is for all students to be educated together • The classroom a student sits in does NOT dictate the type of courses they take • Students in a general education classroom may be enrolled in access courses and students in a separate environment may be enrolled in general education courses

  5. Which Course?Which Assessment?

  6. Course Enrollment Reminders • Access courses are only for students determined to have a significant cognitive disability • Emails with course enrollment vs. primary exceptionality have been sent to districts to ensure that students are properly enrolled • Updated emails will be sent as we receive new enrollment data

  8. FSAA Assessment Planning Resource Guide

  9. FSAA Performance Task vs Datafolio • How a student will participate in the statewide alternate assessment program is an IEP team decision that must be documented on the IEP. • Use the Assessment Planning Resource Guide for IEP Teams, located on the FSAA Portal, to help in the decision making process. • An IEP that indicates "FSAA" would only need to be changed if the decision is that the Datafolio is the most appropriate method to assess the student.

  10. FSAA-Datafolio Overview • Eligible students are those students with the most significant cognitive disabilities who typically do not have a formal mode of communication and are working at pre-academic levels. • It is designed to show student progress on a continuum of access toward academic content rather than mastery of academic content.

  11. Documenting Datafolio on the IEP • This can happen two ways: • A formal IEP meeting of all parties, or • The LEA (or representative) and the parent requesting and documenting the change without a formal meeting. • Remember, even an amendment represents an IEP decision

  12. Responsible Personnel for Administration The student’s exceptional student education teacher, who has either attended face-to-face training for the FSAA—Datafolio or completed the FSAA—Datafolio Administration Training Modules online, should administer the assessment. If this is not possible, the assessment administrator must be a certified teacher or other licensed professional who has worked extensively with the student and is trained in the assessment procedures.

  13. Training – FSAA Performance Task • All teachers who will administer the FSAA – Performance Task for the first time must receive face-to-face training. • Teachers who administered the assessment last year can participate in training through online modules and tutorials. • All training must be completed prior to administering the assessment.

  14. Training – FSAA – Datafolio • Face-to-face trainings took place July 25-28, 2017 in Tampa. • Additional training will be held September 6-8, 2017. • Teachers who still need Datafolio training will be required to access the online training modules and tutorials. • Training Modules and Tutorials will be available by September 1, 2017.
