  1. Introduction Prayer – Life’s Essential Gift Week One July 10, 2013 Pastor Tom Elkins

  2. Prayer in its simplest definition is intimacy with God.

  3. Prayer is a two way conversation with the creator of the universe. The biggest hurdle many believers have in advancing their prayer life is receiving and responding to the revelation of God’s love and believing that they can truly experience God personally.

  4. Why Pray? Because God COMMANDS us to pray in the Bible. Remember that true love is characterized by an OBEDIENT heart. God desires obedience over sacrifice. (1 Sam. 15:22)

  5. As believers we are to pray ALL the time for EVERYONE about EVERYTHING! This is huge…as believers, most, if not all our sin, mistakes and failures are a direct result of our disobedience in failing to pray.

  6. Why Pray? • Because Prayer is the only way to live and experience the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT.

  7. Why Pray? • Prayer is the only way to receive the fullness of JOY. Prayer is the secret pathway to the fullness of joy.

  8. Why Pray? • Prayer is the DETOUR around trouble and the ESCAPE from trouble.

  9. Why Pray? • Prayer is the antidote and cure for WORRY and ANXIETY.

  10. Why Pray? • Because Prayer is God’s appointed and designated means of receiving His BLESSINGS, FAVOR, and COVENANT PROMISES.

  11. This is a basic foundational principal to understanding the priority and power of prayer. Jesus gives us the precept in Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Even the basics of everyday life are included in the “ASKING” of prayer.

  12. Why Pray? • Because answered prayer is the only irrefutable ARGUMENT against the scoffer and the skeptic.

  13. God proves Himself to His people and a lost and watching world by answering PRAYER!
