  2. Overview In this presentation we will learn about Ralph Baccera, his contributions to the ceramic world, his influences and his biography. We will also see many of his ceramic artworks.

  3. Ralph Bacerra earned a bachelor of fine arts in 1961 at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. Ralph after his graduation taught at the institution from 1963 to 1972. A while after working in the institute Ralph left and worked for a couple of years in a studio, until he was offered a position as a chairman of the ceramics department at Otis College of Art and Design in 1983.   4. In 1996, Ralph retired and since then he has been working in his personal ceramics and presenting them in his studio in Eagle Rock, California. Ralph Baccera has been a very influential person in the ceramic world, his artwork was very appreciated. He died of lung cancer June 10, 2008.

  5. Influences Ralph is influenced mostly in his trips to China, Japan, and Taiwan. He is captivated by the Asian style and modernization of glazing and enameled silver and gold.

  12. Sketch #1 In sketch number one I used 2 pinch pots creating a big jar using the Chinese style of glazing gold and white Ralph’s favorite.

  13. Sketch #2 In this second sketch I made a pinch pot with a “Chinese” glazing using two “Chinese” figures and the “Chinese” life tree. The reason for the Chinese style is because that was the major influence in Ralph’s life.
