  3. A. The FFA Motto: 1. Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, and living to serve B. Official Colors – National Blue and Corn Gold C. FFA Salute - Pledge of Allegiance D. Types of memberships: 1. Active - YOU! High school 2. Collegiate - in college FFA chapters 3. Alumni - open to all adults 4. Honorary - given as an award II. FFA Basics

  4. E. The emblem has several parts: 1. Corn Cross Section - symbol of unity, grown in every state. 2. Rising Sun – progress in Ag and confidence in the future 3. Plow - symbol of labor 4. Owl - symbol for knowledge 5. Eagle - freedom and ability to explore new horizons 6. Word - indicate that FFA is an important part of Ag-Ed

  5. F. FFA Degrees – shows progress in the organization 1. Greenhand Degree - 1st year members that meet qualifications 2. Chapter Degree - 2nd year 3. State Degree - 3rd or 4th year 4. American Degree - 5 to 8 years a. You should make these your goals

  6. G. Official Dress is required for district and State leadership CDE’s, FFA Camp, MFE, National Convention, State Convention, State Production CDE’s, and our banquet. It includes; 1. FFA jacket zipped to the top 2. Blue Tie or Scarf 3. Black Pants or Skirts 4. White Dress Shirt or Blouse 5. Black Shoes (closed toe) 6. Black Socks

  7. III. CDE’s A. Career Development Events are contests designed to teach career skills. In South Dakota we have fall leadership CDE’s and spring production CDE’s 1. The fall contests include; a. GreenhandParli Pro b. Creed Speaking c. Extemp Speaking d. Senior Parli - Pro e. Ag Sales f. Ag Marketing

  8. h. Ag Broadcasting i. Job Interview j. Ag Issues Forum 2. The spring contests include; a. Dairy Foods (Ag I Only) b. Agronomy (Crops) c. Horse Judging d. Livestock Judging e. Dairy Cattle Judging f. Landscaping g. Floriculture

  9. h. Natural Resources i. Meats j. Ag Mechanics k. Team Sales l. Food Science m. Farm Business Management n. Ag Communications • Other activities you can get involved in: • State and Nat’l Convo • State Leadership Camp IV. Other Activities
