  2. The ‘Christmas tio’ is a Catalan tradition at Christmas. It’s a trunk of wood that children decorate with a smile face and put legs. It wears a Catalan red hut, made of wood with a bag shape. This hut is called “Barretina” in Catalan.

  3. On the eight of December children begin to feed the ‘Tió’. They put food in front of it and cover it with a red blanket. On Christmas Day (or on Christmas Eve , it depends on the family) children make the ‘tió’shit, hitting it with a stick and instead of the shit, it gives some little presents to children such as wafers or sweets, while people are singing songs, threatening to hit him hard if he doesn’t shit ( doesn’t give presents). Then the tió is burnt in the fireplace.

  4. I was looking forward to its arrival, since we enjoyed a lot and got big surprises. I remember when I was a child, I used to go to my grandparents’ house and if I hadn’t behaved properly, I didn’ t get many presents and my grandma used to say: “well, this year you haven’t fed the tio properly, so next year you must give it a lot of food” I love you, tio!
